TV Fox Network Glee Receives Plenty Of Laurels
Fox Network has shown the TV show Glee for a season. Glee is going to start season two in fall of 2010. Glee captured numerous awards for season one and has star performers make guest appearances for each themed show.
The show takes its name from glee clubs, as the show is a musical comedy-drama that follows the activities of an Ohio high school show choir. The team, New Directions, prepares for various competitions and the show follows the cast members through the various obstacles that arise. Each episode would normally have the cast perform several songs either as a group or individually. The show did not focus on only one team member, instead having various cast members be the star for each episode.
The first season of Glee consisted of 22 episodes, with its pilot episode airing on May 19, 2009 then the show returning on September 9, 2009. The show ran in the Wednesday, 9 pm. Time slot for Fox. Season two has already been ordered by Fox and is scheduled to begin airing on September 21, 2010.
The characters in the show include faculty members Will Schuester (the choir’s director), Sue Sylvester (leader of the cheer squad), and Emma Pillsbury (school counselor). Character students include Finn Hudson (ex-football player for high school and co-captain of choir), Noah Puckerman (Finn’s best friend and also a football player), Rachel Berry (co-captain of choir), Quinn Fabray (Finn’s pregnant ex-girlfriend), Artie Abrams (paraplegic in wheel chair), Kurt Hummel (openly homosexual), and others.
The show has had several different Broadway stars perform with or against the team in various episodes. Olivia Newton-John also performed on the show and was one of the central themes for that episode. In another episode, Neil Patrick Harris played the role of a school board member looking to cut the choir funding from the school budget.
There were many awards given to Glee and the cast after the inaugural season. During the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards the cast won the Outstanding Performance by and Ensemble in a Comedy Series Award. At the 2010 Golden Globes the show won the Best Television Series- Musical or Comedy award. At the 2009 Satellite Awards they won, Best Musical or Comedy TV series, Best Actor, Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series, Best Supporting Actress, and Special Achievement for Outstanding Guest Star.
The much anticipated second season of the TV show Glee will have return characters from last season but there will be some new guest appearances. After so many awards being won by the show many people are waiting for the new season with high expectations.
